Welcome to Fairytales & Flannel. This blog is hopefully an online space that feels something like curling up with a soft blanket beside a warm fire on a cold snowy day. Or, if you prefer spring and summer, like a nice long sit in a lazy porch swing as crickets chirp their symphony and lightning bugs dance like fairies. While it is really just me, sharing stories of my life with you, I hope that after spending some time here you’ll find yourself refreshed, inspired, and happy right down to your toes. I’m a homeschooling mom of six beautiful image bearers who are growing much too fast, and I’ve been married for 20+ years to the Tom Cruise look alike I fell for in high school. I try to love Jesus with all of my heart, and books, coffee, chocolate cake, mac-n-cheese, Coca-Cola Classic, Ugg boots, cardigans, Barnes& Noble, babies, reading aloud to my children, and Poldark (aside from the aforementioned children and hubby) are pretty much the greatest loves of my life. Jane Austen, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Louisa May Alcott, John Eldgredge, and Laura Ingalls Wilder are my writing heros, and I would never want to go through life without them. If any of this is making your heart do that “woo-woo” thing, you are in the right place, and I think it is safe to say you have found a kindred spirit and so have I.
Why Fairytales & Flannel? For me, fairytales represent the dream, the beauty, romance, enchantment and whimsy that make life rich, meaningful, and deeply worthwhile, even in the midst of a typical Tuesday…especially in the midst of a typical Tuesday. Flannel, on the other hand, is rustic and cozy. It is well-worn, broken-in, dependable, down-to-earth, sustainable, yet full of charm, a must have for anything rugged, be it work, play, or adventure. I love them both and believe in my bones that both are needed, in equal measure, for a full and happy life. The desire of my writer’s heart is to spend my life chasing both Fairytales & Flannel (and the occasional firefly or two) to capture the chase in words, and to share those words with you.
